Fior mes Ivèrno Is on Fire (Literally), But You Can Stop It!
If you’ve been roaming the Emerald Stair region in Avowed, you’re probably quite attached to Fior mes Ivèrno.
It’s home to Giatta (a key companion) and a hotspot for all your medieval window-shopping needs. But there’s a tiny little problem—the Steel Garrote wants to turn it into an all-you-can-burn buffet.
But fear not! You can stop the carnage, and no, you don’t need a magical fire extinguisher. Here’s how to be the hero Fior mes Ivèrno desperately needs.
Step 1: Ignore the Main Quest Like a True Rebel
When you receive the main quest Ancient Soil, do yourself a favor and pretend it doesn’t exist for a while.
Instead, take a detour to the Waterfall Cave, conveniently located just west of the city.
It’s like a secret backdoor to heroism (or just a really bad decision waiting to happen).
Step 2: Crash the Steel Garrote’s Planning Committee
Inside the Waterfall Cave, you’ll meet two Steel Garrote veterans who are clearly up to no good.
This is your chance to flex those persuasion skills—or just go full berserker mode.
Either way, press them for intel, but don’t just walk away like a polite guest.
If you let them off the hook, you’re kissing your chance to attack goodbye.
Step 3: Loot, Fight, Repeat
Keep pushing forward, and you’ll encounter more enemies, lockboxes full of fancy crafting materials, and even a Fine Wand (because who doesn’t love a bit of loot?).
Along the way, you’ll stumble upon some juicy missives from Lödwyn, hinting that bad things are about to happen. Like, really bad.
Step 4: The Final Showdown
Eventually, you’ll reach the grand finale: a brawl with seven Steel Garrote goons.
Beat them up, pat yourself on the back, and then dig through even more Lödwyn notes confirming that, yep, Fior mes Ivèrno was doomed—until you showed up like an absolute legend.
Step 5: Congratulations, You Just Saved a City! (Sort Of…)
By clearing out the Waterfall Cave before completing Ancient Soil, you’ll weaken the attackers enough that the city guard can actually hold their ground.
Fior mes Ivèrno will still be attacked, but at least it won’t end up as a pile of smoking rubble.
Now, you get to play judge and jury by deciding the fate of the Lieutenant behind the attack. Plus, you can still chat with Quilucci, Governor Vidarro, and Yatzli.
Bonus: You Still Get to Go Shopping!
Unlike the apocalyptic alternative where everything burns, saving the city means you retain access to all its merchants, unfinished side quests, and bounties.
In short:
- You get to be a hero
- The shops stay open
- You prevent a massive war crime
- Everyone wins (except the Steel Garrote)
So, was the detour worth it? Absolutely. Now go forth, adventurer, and keep Fior mes Ivèrno from turning into a medieval barbecue. 🏰🔥
